Victim Services of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry & Akwesasne now Delivering Ontario’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Counselling Program

STORMONT-DUNDAS-GLENGARRY & AKWESASNE – Victim Services of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry & Akwesasne (SDG&A) is the new provider of Ontario’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Counselling Program.

Victim Services of SDG&A is an organization in Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry & Akwesasne, led by a volunteer Board of Directors who are dedicated to providing assistance to individuals who have been victimized as a result of crime or tragic circumstance. Victim Services of SDG&A was established in our community in June of 2006, and provides assistance to victims 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with services offered in English and French. Victim Services of SDG&A was selected by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services to deliver the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Counselling Program through a call for applications issued earlier this year, and they began delivering the program on April 1, 2023.

The Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Counselling Program provides referrals to short-term counselling for children and youth victims of internet sexual exploitation and their impacted family members. The goal of the program is to quickly provide support by victims by helping them find a counsellor in their area and directly covering those counselling sessions. The counselling is meant to help with recovery from the victimization that has been experienced and improve coping skills.

“The vital work that Victim Services of SDG&A provides to our region is essential. This new opportunity for Victim Services to provide the Internet Child Exploitation Counselling Program will align with the many other programs and services that they have provided for decades in our region.” – Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry

“The Cornwall Police Service supports Victim Services of SDG&A in their quest to expand their outreach services across the province as the new provider of the Internet Child Exploitation Counselling Program. Victim Services of SDG&A is now the lead agency, providing a holistic and coordinated approach to victim services delivery, as well as support services. We recognize that children are some of the most vulnerable parts of our population. The Cornwall Police Service looks forward to working collaboratively with Victim Services of SDG&A on this new opportunity to better serve victims and their families.” – Vincent Foy, Acting Chief of Police for Cornwall Police Service.
