August 1, 2023

David Piccini, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, announced Ontario’s first new conservation reserve in over 10 years to:

  • Strengthen the protection of wildlife
  • Provide recreational opportunities including hiking and birdwatching
  • Encourage the restoration of various species at risk

Monarch Point Conservation Reserve will protect nearly 4,000 acres along the south shores of Prince Edward County – an area nearly five times the size of the Toronto Islands.

Did you know? It’s called Monarch Point because it’s recognized as an International Monarch Butterfly Reserve.
